Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) said on the 26th that six locations, including Mokdong Station in Seoul, totaling 14,012 dwellings, were announced as designated planned districts for the urban public housing complex project (public notice for viewing to hear opinions from residents and others).
Under the Special Act on Public Housing, areas for which opinions of residents and others on the designation or change of complex districts are heard and publicly announced are deemed designated as planned districts for the urban public housing complex project.
The urban public housing complex project (hereinafter urban complex project) is a project to quickly supply dwellings to aging urban areas such as station areas that have long been stalled because private redevelopment is difficult, using a public-led expropriation method (in-kind compensation). First introduced in 2021, LH has since been promoting urban complex projects at a total of 46 locations with a scale of 76,000 dwellings.
The six locations designated and announced this time are ▲near Mokdong Station ▲Gangseo High School in Mok 4-dong ▲west side of Goeunsan ▲Nokbeon-dong Neighborhood Park ▲near Songjung-dong Community Center ▲Mia District 16. The total area is 530,345 square meters, amounting to 14,012 dwellings.
If the six locations including Mokdong Station designated as planned districts secure the consent of at least two-thirds of residents (covering at least one-half of the land area) within one year from the date of planned district designation, they will be finally selected as complex districts after review by the Central Urban Planning Committee and the Central Land Expropriation Committee.
LH plans to accelerate related procedures so the sites can be selected as complex districts by next year, by encouraging resident participation through ongoing town halls and consulting and focusing on raising the consent rate.
Park Hyun-geun, head of LH's Capital Region Redevelopment Project Special Headquarters, said, "We will further strengthen communication with residents so the six planned districts can swiftly lead to designation as formal districts," adding, "We will carry out follow-up procedures without a hitch so that the supply of dwellings in Seoul can proceed early."
