KD, a domestic corporations specializing in multifamily dwellings construction, has joined hands with DA Group Engineering Architects (DA Group), a leading architectural design firm in Korea, to enter the modular dwellings market.
KD said on the 24th that it signed a "strategic memorandum of understanding" (MOU) on the 23rd with DA Group for research and development of modular dwellings and joint business promotion. The agreement was prepared to establish a comprehensive cooperation framework to advance technology and push commercialization by combining the core strengths of the two companies.
Through this MOU, the two companies will jointly pursue ▲ advancement of research and development (R&D) on modular dwellings structure and design technology ▲ joint development of pilot projects and prototypes ▲ joint bidding for public and private projects at home and abroad.
The collaboration is based on an "integrated design–build model" grounded in each side's expertise.
KD will lead development of modular structural systems, factory production and construction, and business feasibility analysis. DA Group will handle architectural design, engineering advisory, modular detail development, and design optimization.
This will provide a unified solution that covers the entire process from design to manufacturing and construction.
To produce tangible results, the two companies will form a "joint TFT" and plan to continuously identify business opportunities through a regular consultative body.
The two companies will push as their first development project a 12-story modular rental dormitory to be built in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan.
KD plans to create a co-living community by combining the efficiency of the modular method with high-end design, incorporating DA Group's design capabilities into the project.
The two companies are also preparing to enter overseas markets beyond Korea.
They will leverage each company's global network to jointly identify strategic projects. For high-priority projects, they plan to form a "one-team" to respond proactively.
A KD official said, "By collaborating with DA Group, we have been able to significantly improve the technical and design completeness of modular dwellings," adding, "We will secure differentiated competitiveness in the rapidly growing modular market through the two companies' synergy."
