President Kim Young-sik was officially appointed CEO of SK ecoplant on the 22nd.
SK ecoplant held an extraordinary shareholders meeting at its headquarters in Susong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, on the day and approved the agenda to appoint the new president of SK ecoplant, Kim Young-sik, as an inside director.
Kim was appointed CEO at the board meeting held after the extraordinary shareholders meeting. Going forward, together with Vice Chairman Jang Dong-hyun, Kim will lead SK ecoplant as co-CEOs.
Kim joined Hynix in 1990 and has spent 35 years on the semiconductor manufacturing floor. In 2017, Kim served as head of photo technology in manufacturing and technology at SK hynix; in 2020, Kim became head of the Icheon FAB; and in 2022, Kim took charge of manufacturing and technology at SK hynix.
This year, as chief production officer (CPO) overseeing mass production at SK hynix, Kim contributed to building an HBM mass-production system and helped SK hynix leap forward as a frontrunner in the global artificial intelligence (AI) memory market. Recognized for delivering results with decisive, on-the-ground management, Kim was tapped at the end of Oct. as president of SK ecoplant.
Kim is the top expert within SK Group on semiconductor processes. Kim is regarded as the right person to lead business opportunity development and innovative growth at SK ecoplant, which is expanding its business model across the entire AI infrastructure domain—from semiconductor infrastructure to semiconductor materials and modules, AI data center construction, and even recycling.
With the appointment of the new CEO, SK ecopplant plans to strengthen its core capabilities in semiconductor and AI, enhance fundamental business competitiveness, and accelerate efforts to establish a foundation for sustainable growth.
