Samsung C&T institutional sector in construction said on the 18th that it signed a Marinus L.I.N.C and Marinus L.I.N.C HVDC project contract established by the Australian federal government and the Victoria and Tasmania State Governments.
The project is an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for an ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission facility with a capacity of 750 MW that consolidations the Hazelwood area in Victoria and the Heybridge area in Tasmania via 90 km underground and 255 km subsea cables.
Through the Marinus L.I.N.C HVDC project, stable bidirectional transmission becomes possible while minimizing energy loss between Tasmania and Victoria, which have abundant renewable energy, and the mainland regions.
Samsung C&T formed a joint venture (JV) with DTI (DT INFRASTRUCTURE), a local infrastructure specialist builder, and won the civil works for underground cable installation and the converter station construction package. Of the total construction cost of 940 billion won, Samsung C&T's equity is 50%, or about 470 billion won.
Samsung C&T ES Sales Division Head Vice President Kim Sung-Joon said, "This Marinus L.I.N.C HVDC project is a result that recognizes Samsung C&T's technological prowess and project execution capabilities in the Australian market," adding, "We will continue to expand our business areas in the global energy market, including Australia."
Meanwhile, in July, Samsung C&T won the Gnarwarre energy storage system (BESS) project in Victoria, Australia, worth about 200 billion won, achieving 1 trillion won in orders in the Australian energy market this year alone.
