A survey found that 70% of conglomerate owner families live in Seoul's Yongsan, Gangnam and Seocho districts.
On the 17th, according to an analysis by CEO Score, a corporate data lab, of 436 members of owner families at 62 designated conglomerate groups for 2025 whose residence (address) could be checked, 409 people, or 93.8% of the total, were found to live in Seoul.
Next were Gyeonggi Province with 17 people (3.9%), overseas with 4 (0.9%), Busan with 2 (0.5%), and Incheon, North Jeolla, Daejeon and North Chungcheong with 1 each (0.2%), in that order, it was found.
Among owner families living in Seoul, there was also a concentration in Yongsan, Gangnam and Seocho districts. Owner families residing in the three districts—127 in Yongsan (29.1%), 113 in Gangnam (25.9%) and 65 in Seocho (14.9%)—totaled 305, accounting for 69.9% of the whole.
Breaking addresses down to the neighborhood level, the largest number of owner families lived in Itaewon and Hannam-dong in Yongsan District, Seoul. One hundred people (22.9%) from owner families of 32 groups, including Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor and LG, list these areas as their address.
Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong; Hong Ra-hee, honorary director of the Samsung Museum Leeum; Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin; and Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun, among the Samsung Group owner family, all live near Itaewon-ro.
Chung Eui-sun, Hyundai Motor chairman; Koo Kwang-mo, LG chairman; Chung Mong-joon, HD Hyundai Asan Foundation chairman; Lee Myung-hee, Shinsegae chairwoman; Kim Joon-ki, DB founding chairman; Lee Soon-hyung, Seah chairman; Park Chan-gu, Kumho Petrochemical chairman; Suh Kyung-bae, Amorepacific chairman; Koo Bon-sang, LIG chairman; Hong Seok-hyun, JoongAng Holdings chairman; Yoo Kyung-sun, Eugene chairman; Shin Dong-won, Nongshim chairman; and Lee Yong-han, WONIK chairman also live in Itaewon-dong and Hannam-dong.
They were followed by 37 people (8.5%) in Seongbuk-dong, Seongbuk District; 24 (5.5%) in Banpo-dong, Seocho District; 18 (4.1%) in Bangbae-dong, Seocho District; 17 (3.9%) in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam District; and 15 (3.4%) in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong District, it was found.
In Gyeonggi Province, 10 people (2.3%) live in Bundang District, Seongnam, and 3 (0.7%) in Yangpyeong County. In Busan, two members (0.5%) of owner families of groups including DN and IS Holdings, corporations based in the Busan–South Gyeongsang region, listed their address there.
This survey targeted owner families whose addresses could be verified through equity holding disclosures. Spouses disclosed at the same address and children under 30 at the same address were excluded from the tally to avoid double counting. When the disclosed address differed from the actual residence, the analysis used the address listed in the disclosure.
