The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 25th that it will accept applications from local governments for the general planner support program competition until the 28th to support general planner activities that will lead balanced regional growth and raise the quality of urban architecture design.
This call will recruit a total of 10 local governments to receive support such as general planner operating expenses (300 million won in national funds).
General planners discover projects to improve the quality of public architecture and urban space design and, by leveraging local characteristics, contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of architecture and urban design in the area.
They also oversee step-by-step advice from project planning to design and construction for public architecture projects, propose procurement methods, and provide overall advisory services for planning design competitions.
General planners may be appointed from among professional engineers in the fields of urban planning, architecture, or landscape architecture; associate professors or higher at universities who majored in urban planning, architecture, or landscape architecture; or licensed architects.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) plans to give extra points during the selection review to local governments that have not received national funding in the general planner operation support program (2019–2025) so far, in order to spread general planner activities to local governments nationwide through this call.
The selection review will be conducted by the selection review committee in early next month. It will comprehensively evaluate review criteria such as the appropriateness of the project content, the will to carry out the project, and feasibility. The results of the selection of supported local governments will be announced in mid-December.
Choi A-reum, head of the Architectural Culture and Landscape Division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), said, "With the activities of general planners, the spaces in our daily lives are changing into cities people want to visit and regions where people want to stay," and added, "Together with general planners, we will enhance the appeal of regions and innovate urban architecture design."
