Seoul Housing and Urban Development Corporation (SH) and KORAIL said on the 25th they will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on the 27th in the Yongsan rail yard renewal area to mark the full-fledged start of the Yongsan International Business District urban development project.
The Yongsan International Business District urban development project is a large-scale plan to transform the long-stalled Yongsan rail yard site into a global business hub. The project gained momentum with approval of the implementation plan on the 20th. SH plans to build the Yongsan International Business District into a "three-dimensional, mixed-use vertical city" that combines work, residential, and leisure functions.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be held as a participatory festival that shares the city's future vision with residents. With a total of 5,000 seats, part one will feature the groundbreaking, and part two will include celebratory performances by singers such as Lee Mu-jin and STAYC, linked to a special live broadcast of SBS PowerFM's "At noon with Joo Hyun-young." On site, there will also be side programs such as a Yongsan International Business District promotion booth and an artificial intelligence (AI) photo experience space.
Hwang Sang-ha, SH president, said, "Starting in December, we will begin work on basic infrastructure to reliably lay the foundation for land supply," and added, "We will do our best to create a sustainable space where the city, environment, and technology are in harmony, improving residents' quality of life."
