SAMPYO Cement said on the 24th that it obtained an "integrated A grade," becoming the first in the cement industry to achieve A grade or higher across all institutional sectors for three consecutive years in the 2025 ESG (environmental, social, and governance) assessment released by the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability (KCGS).
This assessment reflects continued practical and systematic management activities across all ESG areas, including establishing a site operation system that puts safety first; minimizing environmental impact in production processes such as expanding the eco-friendly special cement "Bluement"; embedding transparent decision-making and compliance and ethical management; and expanding community-tailored social contribution activities.
KCGS is a leading domestic ESG evaluation agency that assesses the sustainability management level of domestic listed corporations every year. The integrated A grade is awarded to corporations that demonstrate a high level of ESG management across all institutional sectors, including environment, society, and governance.
SAMPYO Cement became the first in the cement industry to record A grade or higher across all institutional sectors for three consecutive years. In the social institutional sector, it earned the highest grade of A+ for the second year in a row, demonstrating results in creating social value through strengthening risk management based on ESG strategy, building safe business sites, and protecting stakeholders.
It also maintained an A grade in the environmental institutional sector. SAMPYO Cement is pursuing carbon neutrality by 2050 by continuously introducing eco-friendly process improvement technologies and investing in facilities. It is practicing substantive eco-friendly management through measures such as operating a dedicated vessel for Jeju Port to reduce cement dust, restoring habitats for endangered species, and adopting companion beaches.
In the governance institutional sector, it was the only one in the industry to earn an A grade for two consecutive years. SAMPYO Cement established an ESG Committee within the board of directors in 2022, the first in the cement industry. The ESG Committee, the Outside Director Candidate Recommendation Committee, and the Internal Transactions Committee are operated with all outside directors at the center, establishing transparent and responsible governance.
A SAMPYO Cement official said, "Receiving the integrated A grade again in this ESG assessment is the result of SAMPYO Cement advancing its sustainability management system without wavering," adding, "We will continue to further strengthen our competitiveness in sustainability based on eco-friendly process innovation and reinforced responsible management."
