Samsung E&A said on the 20th that at the MEED (Middle East Economic Digest) Project Awards ceremony held in Dubai, UAE, on the 19th, the Saudi Arabia APOC PDH/UTOS project won the MEED Project Award in the energy category.
MEED is a weekly magazine specializing in the Middle East economy, selecting the best projects in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region every year. Samsung E&A has won for 14 consecutive years through this year.
The project for which Samsung E&A received the award is APOC PDH (Propane Dehydrogenation) / UTOS (Utility & Offsites). Following its selection as the National Winner for the best project in Saudi Arabia in the energy category, the project also received the Highly Commended Award for MENA.
The project is to build a PDH plant and utility infrastructure within the Jubail 2 Industrial City on the northeastern coast of Saudi Arabia, producing about 840,000 tons of propylene annually. Samsung E&A won the order from APOC (Advanced Polyolefins Company) in Saudi Arabia and carried out all EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) phases.
According to Samsung E&A, despite unstable external conditions at the outset of the project, the company met the schedule based on differentiated innovative technologies such as design automation and modularization, as well as extensive experience. It also reduced construction waste and improved resource efficiency by reusing existing facilities at nearby sites. In addition to these success factors, the company said it received high marks for shared-growth outcomes with the local community, including local sourcing of key materials and expanded hiring of local workers, which led to this award.
