The plan to build the "Global Center," a research and development (R&D) base for POSCO Group, in the Wirye housing site development district in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, has been made official. If ground is broken in the first half of next year and construction is completed in 2030, the project is expected to create jobs for about 3,300 people.
Seongnam City and POSCO Holdings held the "POSCO Global Center groundbreaking ceremony" at 2 p.m. on the 17th at Site 2 of the Wirye urban support facility land. The ceremony was organized as a core forward base to lead POSCO Group's Mirae Industries as well as to establish the Wirye Fourth Industrial Cluster.
The POSCO Global Center, a key hub of the Wirye Fourth Industrial Cluster, will be built on a 49,308-square-meter site, with five underground floors and 12 above ground. The related project cost is estimated to reach 2.5 trillion won. The center is expected to serve as a core base in the Seoul metropolitan area and as an R&D hub, with researchers and support staff from POSCO Holdings and major affiliates moving in.
Seongnam City aims to start construction in the first half of next year and complete it in 2030. The city said the POSCO Global Center could generate about 3,300 jobs after completion and is expected to produce an economic ripple effect of about 16 trillion won over 10 years.
