Hyundai E&C said on the 10th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with HYUNDAI WIA for joint development of a robot parking solution and business expansion at HYUNDAI WIA's Uiwang Research Center on the 7th.
The agreement was pursued to address parking shortages caused by urban densification and inefficiencies in using underground space. The two companies plan to maximize parking efficiency through a robot-based smart parking system and apply it to various living spaces, including multifamily housing and commercial facilities, to present a new model for utilizing urban space.
The robot parking solution introduced by Hyundai E&C is a fully unmanned valet system that transports and parks vehicles autonomously without driver intervention. When a user leaves a vehicle in a designated pickup zone, a robot moves under the vehicle, lifts the wheels, and automatically moves and aligns it in the optimal parking space.
Operated through an app, the system applies sensor-based precision control technology, enabling safe and efficient parking even in tight spaces. It can be easily applied to existing self-parking garages without installing large separate structures, improving parking efficiency by about 30%.
Based on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's recently released revision allowing installation of an "auto-valet parking device for multifamily housing," Hyundai E&C plans to expand its application starting next year not only to new reconstruction and redevelopment projects but also to The New House, its new apartment renewal business.
A Hyundai E&C official said, "Robot parking is a new solution to the worsening urban parking shortage," adding, "Hyundai E&C will lead this change to enhance customers' parking convenience and build a smart residential and building environment based on robotic technology."
