Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said on the 5th that the fallout from the policy fiasco that dried up the seeds of supply during the Moon Jae-in administration and the tenure of the previous mayor is continuing to this day, adding that proceeding with redevelopment and reconstruction as soon as possible is the only solution.
On this day, Oh posted on his social media a piece titled "It's not about blaming others; it's time to work in sync," and said, "Lacking the courage to face uncomfortable truths and fearful of the public's criticism, some may want to shift responsibility to someone else, but the public already knows the whole truth."
He said, "No one can deny that to overcome the current real estate crisis, we must devote every effort to supplying dwellings; this is a task for all of us," adding, "Following Democratic Party politicians, even someone said to be responsible for government policy is talking about an unfounded permitting bottleneck and shifting the blame for the shortage of dwellings supply onto the Seoul city government."
He went on to say, "The Seoul city government has already welcomed the government's willingness to boost supply and has made clear its position to cooperate to the fullest," adding, "Even so, the government's behavior of fomenting discord with the Seoul city government is unwise."
He continued, "It is time for the government to lend strength to Seoul's efforts and play a priming role in supply," and added, "Comments that dodge reality—'blaming others' and 'pitting sides against each other'—only deepen public doubt about the will to cooperate on the supply of dwellings and do nothing to solve the problem."
In addition, Oh urged, "There is no divide between ruling and opposition parties on supply policy, and the central government and the Seoul city government must work in sync," and said, "I hope the government and the ruling party, even now, will take past failures as a lesson and join in efforts to normalize the supply of dwellings."
