KyeRyong Construction Industrial was selected as the contractor for the public-participation redevelopment of the Jwawon Shopping Center in Namgajwa-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (near Gajwa Station in the Gajaeul New Town). Jwawon Shopping Center is the nation's first mixed-use residential-commercial building, approved for use in 1966.
Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) said on the 20th that this was decided at a general meeting of all Jwawon Shopping Center land and other owners on the 18th. Through this project, Jwawon Shopping Center will be transformed into a complex building combining apartments, officetels, retail, and sports facilities.
Earlier, on the 17th, Namkwang Engineering & Construction was selected as the contractor for the public-participation redevelopment of Yeongjin Market in Singil-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Yeongjin Market, located near Boramae Station on Line 7, is an aged building 55 years after its completion in 1970. Through this project, apartments, officetels, and for-sale and public-rental retail spaces will be created.
Jwawon Shopping Center and Yeongjin Market received a safety grade of E and were notified of a ban on use and an order to relocate. LH has been carrying out advance preparations for swift implementation, including holding meetings with construction companies since the first half of this year to encourage participation.
LH said, "With the selection of the contractors, the full-scale improvement of aging buildings around Jwawon Shopping Center and Yeongjin Market will secure the safety of local residents and improve the residential environment," adding, "We expect that approximately 300 dwellings will be additionally supplied in central Seoul."
