Global construction project management (PM) corporations HanmiGlobal (Chair Kim Jong-hoon) said on the 25th that it secured back-to-back contracts in the Middle East.
HanmiGlobal simultaneously won three construction supervision service contracts for multifamily housing and infrastructure construction projects ordered by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) in Kuwait. The total contract amount is about 31 billion won.
It also won the PM services for the Green Riyadh Group 7 project in Saudi Arabia. The contract amount is 16 billion won. With this, HanmiGlobal secured new orders totaling 47 billion won in the Middle East. This is about 19% of HanmiGlobal's overseas revenue last year (on a consolidation basis).
First, in Kuwait, HanmiGlobal will provide construction supervision and business consulting services for three projects in total, including multifamily housing for about 1,600 households and public buildings in the southwestern outskirts of Kuwait City, road lighting works, and roadworks and infrastructure works in the western area of Abdullah City.
This batch of orders is noteworthy as a joint advance by the public and private sectors marking the 50th anniversary of construction cooperation between the two countries. Abdullah New City, which includes two of the three projects, is a case of exporting Korean-style smart city technology through infrastructure cooperation diplomacy between the Korean and Kuwaiti governments. The Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) has been responsible for the master plan and detailed design of Abdullah New City since 2017, and in 2024 it helped HanmiGlobal enter Kuwait by winning the Program Management (PgM) services as a partner for the new city infrastructure establishment project as the overall project manager.
By performing PgM to oversee multiple construction projects within the Abdullah City infrastructure development, which will be developed as a Korean-style smart city, HanmiGlobal earned recognition for its stable project management capabilities and secured three additional construction projects from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, solidifying its position in the local market.
Along with the Kuwait wins, HanmiGlobal also secured the construction project management services for the Green Riyadh Project Group 7 area in Saudi Arabia. The Green Riyadh project is a large-scale urban regeneration initiative launched in 2019 under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and at the initiative of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and is one of the key tasks of Saudi Vision 2030.
The project aims to make Riyadh one of the world's 100 most livable cities and to improve access to green spaces, air quality, and the well-being of urban residents. By 2030, it will plant 7.5 million trees across the city to create a sustainable environment and restore the urban ecosystem.
The overall Green Riyadh program is being carried out in seven zones, with a total project cost of $10 billion (about 14 trillion won). HanmiGlobal will perform client support tasks for construction project management, including project management and supervision and quality control, for the creation of green spaces over an area of about 22 km² in Zone 7.
These consecutive wins by HanmiGlobal in the Middle East reflect recognition of the project management track record and expertise it has accumulated in the region. Having entered Saudi Arabia in 2006, HanmiGlobal is currently performing PM for the construction of 80,000 housing units for construction workers in Neom City, and in June it won PM services for the construction of an 87-story premium high-rise apartment building in Mecca, continuing to expand its foothold in the Middle Eastern market.
A HanmiGlobal official said, "In addition to Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, including Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is a land of opportunity for global construction corporations because it has abundant demand for continued infrastructure investment and environmentally friendly smart city development based on oil money," adding, "HanmiGlobal plans to continue expanding its business based on the trust built up in the Middle East and its proven competitiveness."
