A forum will be held to discuss the appropriateness of weekly house price statistics releases and the reliability of house statistics.
The Korea Housing Association and the Korea Urban Research Institute said on the 24th they will hold a "Forum on improving house price statistics" at 10 a.m. on the 30th of this month at the National Assembly Members' Office Building. The event will be co-hosted by Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Lee Yeon-hee and Yeom Tae-young.
At the forum, Hanyang University urban engineering professor Lee Chang-mu will present on the theme "Reevaluating the performance and role of weekly apartment price statistics," and Korea Urban Research Institute Director Choi Eun-young will present on the theme "Problems and improvements of the current house price trend survey."
After the presentations, Sejong University professor Lim Jae-man, Hanyang Cyber University professor Ji Gyu-hyeon, Real Estate R114 senior researcher Yoon Ji-hae, Seoul National University professor Kim Yong-chang, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Housing Policy Division Director Lee Yu-ri, among others, will hold a discussion.
Since the government-level "manipulation of house statistics" case, public interest has grown in the reliability of house price statistics. The large gaps between figures released by the public and private sectors have also been a long-standing point of contention. Some argue that weekly house price statistics releases actually confuse the market. The event is expected to facilitate in-depth discussion on these issues.
