Kumho Engineering & Construction said on the 15th that it won, on a sole basis, the contract for the "Haman combined-cycle power plant yard construction," ordered by Korea Midland Power (KOMIPO).

The project will build auxiliary facilities for a 500-megawatt (MW) liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant in the Gunbuk General Industrial Complex in Haman County, South Gyeongsang. Kumho Engineering & Construction alone will carry out the entire process, including installation of field-fabricated tanks and piping, electrical work, and construction of the wastewater and sewage treatment building and the main office.

The total contract value is 111.2 billion won. The construction period is 36 months after groundbreaking, with completion slated for Sep. 2028.

The Haman combined-cycle power plant is a replacement facility following the shutdown of Boryung coal-fired Unit 6 (30-year operating life). A total project cost of 918.5 billion won will be invested in a 161,937-square-meter site within the Gunbuk General Industrial Complex.

Kumho Engineering & Construction has steadily built technical capabilities and a track record in the domestic plant market. It is currently working on the "Gongju natural gas power plant" in South Chungcheong and the "Gumi natural gas power plant" in North Gyeongsang. Last year, it also won the "Gongju natural gas supply facility," building competitiveness in the natural gas power sector.

A Kumho Engineering & Construction official said, "This award reflects the company's expertise in the plant field and its project execution experience," adding, "We will build auxiliary facilities optimized for power plant operations through accumulated know-how and systematic project management." The official added, "In line with the national Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand, we will actively participate in LNG power plant and power supply facility projects that will continue to be ordered."
