Daea Cheonggwa, an affiliate of Hoban Group, said on the 10th that it has begun water supply support for drought-stricken Gangneung, Gangwon Province, mobilizing 20 water tank trucks.
Using the water tank trucks deployed since the 9th, the company plans to fill irrigation tanks for cabbage fields in the Anbandegi area of Gangneung and supply a total of 2,000 tons (t) of water over four days through the 12th. This is an amount that can supply the Anbandegi cabbage fields, the only supply source in the large-scale highland cabbage cultivation complex in Gangneung where only government- and NongHyup Economic Holdings-supported water tank trucks are available, for about seven days.
Chief Executive Lee Sang-yong of Daea Cheonggwa visited the drought-hit site to inspect damage to highland cabbage farms and said, "We hope this emergency support will be a small help for residents suffering from the drought in the Gangneung area to regain their daily lives."
Earlier, Daea Cheonggwa promoted the "Forum to overcome the climate crisis in Jeju agriculture" and a "tour of the Institute for Agriculture Responding to Warming" in Jul., and delivered a total of 80 million won from the "Mutual Cooperation Fund for Co-prosperity between Urban and Rural Areas" and the "Garak Co-prosperity Fund" to support agricultural machinery and materials for Jeju's agricultural sites.
Hoban Group, including Hoban Construction and Daea Cheonggwa, delivers donations and relief supplies every year when large-scale natural disasters occur at home and abroad. In Mar., it donated 300 million won as relief funds for wildfire damage in the Yeongnam region. Since 2023, it has delivered about 1.2 billion won in relief funds for wildfires and heavy rains in Korea, as well as for the earthquake in Türkiye and war damage in Ukraine.
