With accidents occurring in facilities deemed to have good safety ratings, the government is strengthening management standards for these facilities. Accidents have occurred at construction and facilities assessed as having good safety ratings, such as the Jeongja Bridge in Bundang, prompting an expansion of facility management standards.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's performance plan for 2026 released on the 7th, the Ministry is working on strengthening standards for managing facilities with good safety ratings.
The Ministry noted that "accidents are happening in facilities judged to be good (B and C grades), such as Jeongja Bridge in 2023 and Yudeung Bridge in 2024," stating, "We aim to set the repair and reinforcement rate for all facilities graded A to E as a management target."
In recent years, accidents have occurred in facilities rated as good for safety. An accident occurred in April 2023 with the collapse of Jeongja Bridge, which had a safety rating of B at the time.
Additionally, the Ministry has decided to strengthen management standards for facilities where accidents are believed to occur, regardless of their safety ratings. The Ministry has also set a high target for the facility safety measure rate. The facility safety measure rate set by the Ministry for next year is 4.564. The performance in 2023 was 2.197, and 2.956 in 2024. The facility safety measure rate refers to the ratio of the number of facilities that have completed the required measures among all facilities needing action in grades A, B, and C.
The Ministry stated, "In the future, improvements in facility safety measures to respond to unpredictable natural disaster situations due to worsening climate change are expected to enhance the stability of the country's construction infrastructure utilization."
The Ministry has also set the contribution amount to the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS) for next year at the highest level in three years. The contribution amount for the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS) next year is 928 billion won. This year's budget for the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety (KALIS) is 868 billion won, while the budget for 2024 is 843 billion won.
