The Cement Industry Social Contribution Foundation, along with the Gangneung Regional Fund Committee and Halla Cement, has begun providing support to help residents facing a severe water shortage due to the extreme drought in the Gangneung area.
The Cement Industry Social Contribution Foundation delivered 60,000 bottles of bottled water (worth 20 million won) to Gangneung City Hall on the 4th, as it was announced on the 3rd. The bottled water will be prioritized for distribution to rural areas heavily affected by the drought and households in vulnerable situations.
The Gangneung area has recently experienced a lack of precipitation. As water supply restrictions that lock 75% of water meters have begun, more villages are relying on water delivery trucks. In particular, the discomfort is significant for the elderly and vulnerable populations. The Cement Industry Social Contribution Foundation and Halla Cement decided to provide quick support to help the community overcome this unexpected hardship.
Shim Yong-seok, Secretary General of the Cement Industry Social Contribution Foundation, said, "As it was established to enhance the stability and welfare of residents near cement plants, responding quickly in crisis situations aligns with the foundation's purpose," and added, "We will continue to cooperate with the local community to engage in timely and diverse social contribution activities."
Shim Kyo-hwa, Chairperson of the Gangneung Regional Fund Committee of the Cement Industry Social Contribution Foundation, stated, "I hope this bottled water not only alleviates the thirst of Gangneung residents but also serves as a catalyst for the quick resolution of the drought."
Halla Cement, as a local corporation based in Gangneung supporting the foundation, participated in this bottled water support.
Hwang Soon-ku, Deputy Minister of Halla Cement, expressed, "We will overcome the hardships of Gangneung citizens together and use this as an opportunity to continue our unwavering social contribution activities as a local corporation, fulfilling our responsibility to the community."
In the future, the Cement Industry Social Contribution Foundation plans to engage in various support projects to enhance the quality of life and welfare of residents near cement plants, including Gangneung, Danyang, Donghae, Samcheok, Yeongwol, Danyang, and Jecheon, as well as for sustainable development.
