The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has deferred the decision on the export of high-precision domestic maps applied for by Apple.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's National Geographic Information Institute made this decision at a meeting of the export consultation group for maps held on the 4th. Apple applied for the export of a national 1:5000 commercial digital map on June 16.
The consultation group consists of the Commissioner of the National Geographic Information Institute (chairperson), the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Unification, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the National Intelligence Service, and private commissioners.
The consultation group determined that, like Google's application for high-precision domestic map exports, this application also requires in-depth additional review regarding its impact on national security and domestic industries.
Along with the deferral decision, the consultation group extended the processing period by 60 days. The group plans to decide on the export of high-precision domestic maps by December 8 after fully gathering opinions from relevant agencies.
