Heo Yoon-hong, CEO of GS Engineering and Construction, said on the 3rd regarding the worker fatality incident that occurred at the construction site, "We will undertake thorough reflection and a major innovation to prevent the recurrence of safety accidents."
GS Engineering and Construction stated in an apology letter distributed under the name of CEO Heo Yoon-hong on the afternoon of the same day, "The company will immediately halt all processes at the accident site and will implement a company-wide special inspection to ensure safety checks and eliminate risk factors at all sites."
GS Engineering and Construction noted, "This accident is something that should never happen at a construction company that has a duty to protect the lives of workers on construction sites," adding, "There is no excuse."
Additionally, they said, "We will accept this incident as an 'unacceptable situation' and thoroughly investigate to find all possible ways to prevent its recurrence," adding, "We will spare no support in managing the situation."
They also mentioned, "We will actively cooperate with relevant authorities such as the police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor in investigating the cause of the accident," stating, "Despite having been continuously building our safety system, we will revisit why we could not prevent the accident and identify what further measures are necessary to protect the safety of workers on-site."
CEO Heo added, "With the determination to start again from 'zero base', we will thoroughly reflect and strengthen the on-site management system that prioritizes worker safety with rigorous efforts."
Earlier that morning, an incident occurred at GS Engineering and Construction's apartment construction site in Yongdap-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, where a worker fell and died.
