The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that Minister Kim Yoon-deok visited the scene of a contact accident between the Mugunghwa train and seven workers in the Gyeongbu Line section from Namseong-hyeon to Cheongdo on the 19th.
Minister Kim received a report on the circumstances of the accident and measures to prevent its recurrence from the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL). Minister Kim noted, "It is deeply regrettable that a backward country-type railroad accident occurred in a country that exports high-speed railways," and said, "I will renew and reorganize the national railway safety management system in all areas, from the establishment of all work plans to post-management."
Minister Kim also emphasized, "To ensure that the precious lives of workers are not sacrificed again, I will conduct thorough cause investigations, clarify responsibility, and take strict measures against any violations."
