Eunpyeong District's Eungam-dong Village, one of Seoul's aging residential areas, will be transformed into a large-scale complex with about 3,000 dwellings.
On the 14th, the Seoul city government announced the decision on the maintenance plan for the housing maintenance-type redevelopment project and the designation of the maintenance zone for the area near 700 and 755 Eungam-dong, Eunpyeong District.
The village plans to establish various infrastructure and community facilities, including a total of 2,942-unit apartment buildings, public parking lots, parks, public spaces, public offices, and childcare facilities. In the area near 700 Eungam-dong, there will be 15 apartment buildings with three underground floors and 35 above-ground floors totaling 1,456 units (290 units for public rental), while the area near 755 will have 14 apartment buildings of the same size with 1,486 units (327 units for public rental).
A public parking lot with 90 spaces will be newly established near Daerim Market in Eunpyeong District. The Seoul city government expects this will not only alleviate parking inconveniences for market users and nearby residents but also contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
This project will be promoted in line with the second-generation urban regeneration policy called 'balanced development of declining areas.' It is a model that revitalizes the underdeveloped local economy around Daerim Market through urban regeneration and organizes aging dwellings through private redevelopment.
In April 2019, the area around the village was designated as a general neighborhood-type urban revitalization area. It was an area difficult for emergency vehicles to enter due to aging buildings, steep terrain, and narrow roads. This project is expected to resolve pedestrian inconveniences and safety risks for residents.
Choi Jin-seok, head of the Housing Department of Seoul, said, 'This decision on the maintenance plan is the first step towards dramatically expanding the supply of dwellings and significantly improving the residential environment with the creation of about 3,000 units in Eungam-dong.' He added, 'We will continue to ensure that the project proceeds smoothly so that residents can quickly enjoy a new living environment.'
