Minister Kim Yun-deok visited the construction site of the Gadeokdo New Airport in Gangseo District, Busan, on the 7th, stating, "Since this is a decision made by the government, we will find a wise way to keep our promise with the people."
Minister Kim noted, "Although I have only recently taken office, I came here because the Gadeokdo New Airport is an important and challenging issue," after reviewing the status of the project and the site conditions with the Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Authority.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained that Minister Kim's visit to the construction site was to gather diverse opinions from the local community and the field, following the cancellation of the selection of a contractor for the land development project, which necessitated a plan for normalizing the project's resumption.
On the same day, Minister Kim also chaired a meeting attended by airport construction and project management experts and local governments. Various topics, including the direction of the land development project, safety-related issues such as bird strikes, and an integrated project management system, were actively discussed during the meeting.
Minister Kim stated, "Based on the vivid opinions I heard on-site, I will actively seek ways to swiftly resume the project while ensuring sufficient safety and quality," adding, "It is crucial to reflect on the issues that arose during the project implementation process and establish feasible normalization plans."
Earlier, President Lee Jae-myung stated during a regional development meeting in Busan on the 25th of last month that efforts would be made to ensure the construction of the Gadeokdo New Airport does not become stranded or delayed.
