The Korea Construction Association announced on the 5th that it held an emergency meeting with the leaders of its member organizations on the 4th, chaired by President Han Seung-koo, to discuss measures to eradicate serious accidents on construction sites.
The meeting was attended by the Korea Specialty Contractors Association, Korea Housing Association, Overseas Construction Association, Korea Mechanical Equipment Construction Association, Korea Institute of Registered Architects, Korea Construction Equipment Association, Korea Construction Engineers Association, Korea Engineering Association, Construction Mutual Aid Association, Specialized Construction Mutual Aid Association, Mechanical Equipment Construction Mutual Aid Association, Engineering Mutual Aid Association, Korea Developer Association, the chair of the Korea Construction Association's Operation Committee Choi Im-rak, and external experts from the Korean Society of Construction Safety and the Korea Facilities Safety Association.
President Han said, "I deeply sympathize with the government policies discussed at the Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee Jae-myung aimed at eradicating occupational accident fatalities, and I will actively participate in the government's policies to strengthen safety on construction sites."
Member organizations also agreed on the necessity of institutional improvements for changing worker awareness and securing safety resources, and pledged to ensure that practical safety measures focused on the field are implemented.
The Korea Construction Association plans to establish a task force to eradicate serious accidents in collaboration with the government, local governments, and the industry, and to promote innovation in construction safety.
President Han noted, "The life and safety of the people must take precedence over any value, and to achieve the sustainable development of the construction industry, protecting the lives of workers is fundamental and the starting point." He added, "The construction industry will actively cooperate with government policies and work together to establish an effective safety management system."
