The number of victims recognized as targets for support under the Special Act on Jeonse Fraud has increased to a total of 32,185.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 3rd that it held three plenary meetings of the Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Committee in July, deciding 748 individuals as victims of Jeonse fraud. Among them, 630 are new applicants, and 118 are those who raised objections to previous decisions, having their victim eligibility re-verified.
Accordingly, since the implementation of the Jeonse Fraud Victims Act in June 2023, the total number recognized as victims of Jeonse fraud has reached 32,185. The rate of individuals recognized as victims is 65.2% of all applications.
According to the revised Jeonse Fraud Victims Act implemented last November, the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) has currently purchased 1,440 dwellings for victims. This includes 154 buildings that are classified as illegal structures due to violations of the Building Act.
The acquisition of victim dwellings by LH is a program that supports housing stability by allowing LH to acquire these homes through auctions, thus receiving priority purchasing rights from the victims, and providing them as public rentals. The auction profits realized from purchasing at a lower price than the normal acquisition cost are converted to security deposits, allowing victims to reside without rental burdens for up to 10 years. Upon eviction, the auction profits are paid immediately to recover deposit losses as much as possible.
As of the 30th of last month, there have been a total of 15,267 requests for preliminary consultations regarding the purchase of victim dwellings. Of these, 7,870 cases have been classified as eligible for purchase, following completion of review through field investigations and other means.
