DL E&C announced on the 28th that it has implemented a drone platform that realizes a "Digital Twin" at all construction sites for dwellings, becoming the first in the domestic industry.
A digital twin refers to the reproduction of real-world objects in a virtual world. When applied to the construction field, it allows the creation of a virtual "twin" site representing reality. This enables the utilization of this to manage processes, quality, and safety, as well as for design, sales, and maintenance.
DL E&C has partnered with a smart construction platform corporation, Meissa, to develop the drone platform and establish a digital twin. Meissa possesses the only three-dimensional mapping engine in the country. They implemented an intricate digital twin by periodically capturing and precisely analyzing construction sites using drones.
DL E&C's drone platform allows for a bird's-eye view of construction site conditions for air and processes based on the digital twin, displayed in 3D. It measures and records the slope, area, distance, and other site conditions, improving construction accuracy by comparing with blueprints, thus facilitating efficient site management.
In particular, DL E&C has improved productivity with thorough cost management through the drone platform. Previously, errors occurred while using data from trucks entering and exiting the site to calculate earthwork volume. However, by utilizing the drone platform, the earthwork volume can now be automatically calculated through aerial photography, significantly enhancing accuracy.
DL E&C has introduced the drone platform at all construction sites for dwellings and is currently operating it. It is also applicable in some civil engineering and plant sites. The platform is utilized not only for construction but also for assessing business viability during the bidding phase. In the future, plans are in place to enhance the system by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology, allowing the AI to autonomously identify and manage errors on-site.
An official from DL E&C noted, "Utilizing the drone platform allows for securing quality and safety as well as enhancing productivity," and added, "Based on the industry's leading technologies and experience, such as drones, AI, and Building Information Modeling (BIM), we will continue to lead the smart construction sector."
