The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 28th that the National Map Museum has renovated its exhibition hall and will welcome visitors starting on the 31st.

This exhibition hall renovation was undertaken to improve the outdated exhibition environment and to introduce 59 new artifacts to enhance visitor engagement and satisfaction.

The renovation of the National Map Museum centered around the historical hall (360㎡). The revamped historical hall introduces the historical significance of old maps, highlighting the methods and processes of mapmaking, as well as the historical context of different eras.

In particular, this exhibition features the placement of videos and monitors in several areas of the exhibition hall to aid the understanding of children and teenagers, and also showcases a 3D braille globe for visually impaired individuals.

Along with this exhibition hall renovation, the National Map Museum plans to launch related educational programs. The education will be held every Friday and Saturday for a month starting from Aug. 1, with a total of nine sessions. Family units, including children, will engage as travelers to complete missions using old maps, thus increasing their interest and understanding of maps.

Jo Woo-seok, Director General of the National Geographic Information Institute, noted, "I hope this exhibition will be an opportunity to examine the changes of the Korean Peninsula and Joseon through old maps," and added, "We will continue to improve the exhibition environment in the future."
