On the 16th, the police launched a forceful investigation related to the incident in which a retaining wall of the overpass at Gajan Intersection in Osan City collapsed, resulting in the death of a driver passing below.
The Osan Disaster Response Investigation Team of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency executed search warrants at four locations, including Osan City Hall, the construction company Hyundai E&C, and a road maintenance company, at 9 a.m. on the 22nd.
The police are sending investigators to the disaster safety department and the road construction, maintenance, and management departments of Osan City Hall to secure necessary materials for the investigation. Additionally, several investigators are deployed to the Hyundai E&C headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and the relevant road maintenance company located in Osan City to conduct searches.
At around 7:04 p.m. on the 16th, a 10-meter-high retaining wall on the overpass toward Suwon at Gajan Intersection in Osan City collapsed, crushing a passenger car below and resulting in the death of a man in his 40s who was driving.
Regarding the cause of the accident, concerns have been raised about the insufficient response from Osan City, which did not control the road while working on pothole repairs on the overpass, along with heavy rainfall of 39.5mm, and the possibility of poor construction by the wall construction company.
