The Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) has commenced construction on the 'Hongneung R&D Support Center' as part of the urban regeneration revitalization plan in the Hongneung-dong area of Dongdaemun District.
SH announced on the 18th that it filed a notification of the commencement of the 'Hongneung R&D Support Center' in Dongdaemun District on the 16th. This project is being promoted by SH on behalf of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and is the first project of the Hongneung urban regeneration new deal project, with completion targeted for March 2027.
The Hongneung R&D Support Center will be constructed with a total floor area of 2,110.7 square meters, spanning two underground levels and three above-ground levels. It is expected to be equipped with facilities for comprehensive startup support.
The underground levels will feature laboratories to support next-generation information and communication technology, specifically quantum technology, while above ground will include shared areas such as conference rooms, a lounge, a restaurant, and a cafe, as well as rental spaces for startup corporations and areas for large corporations and investors.
Additionally, as part of the Hongneung urban regeneration new deal project, the 'Hongneung Startup Lab' and 'Advanced Medical Device and Bio Health Center' will also be developed.
SH plans to develop the Hongneung area into a hub for the bio and medical industry through these three key facilities.
SH President Hwang Sang-ha noted, 'Hongneung is an area densely populated with universities and research institutions, making its potential for the activation of startups and venture corporations very high,' and added, 'We aim to lay the foundation for the advancement of research in quantum technology along with the activation of the startup ecosystem through the establishment of this R&D support center.'
