The Unification Korean Peninsula Construction Industry Strategic Research Institute under the construction project management (PM) specialist company HanmiGlobal announced on the 16th that it has appointed Lee Sang-jun, a former senior researcher at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS), as the new director.
This new director is an expert in the field of Korean Peninsula land development who has dedicated over 30 years to research in preparation for unification. He served as the head of the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia Research Center and the director of the National Land Planning and Regional Research Headquarters at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS).
Since its establishment in 2020, the Unification Korean Peninsula Construction Industry Strategic Research Institute has been steadily formulating strategies for North Korea's entry into the construction industry following unification. Research activities aimed at development directions for North Korea based on sustainable development continue.
The director noted, "The field expected to undergo the most significant changes and benefits if unification of the Korean Peninsula becomes a reality is precisely the construction industry," adding, "Given that North Korea faces a situation similar to that of poor construction sites overseas due to prolonged isolation and lack of resources, the participation of private enterprises with international experience and expertise and thorough preparation are essential."
