Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 10th that it will implement a 'life care service' for elderly residents living alone in LH rental dwellings starting from the 14th.
The life care service provides companionship for elderly residents aged 80 and over living alone in LH rental dwellings and checks their health status and safety. It also supports the provision and connection of welfare information.
Since 2022, LH has been collaborating with Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the aged (KORDI) to provide care services primarily for public and purchased rental dwellings. So far, it has provided services to approximately 6,000 elderly individuals.
This year, LH will expand the scope of service provision to include jeonse rental dwellings to address residential welfare blind spots. It plans to deploy a total of 350 'life caregivers' by region and provide care services to 3,500 elderly households, including over 500 jeonse rental dwellings.
'Life caregivers' were prioritized in selection from LH rental dwelling residents aged 60 and over who can participate in caregiving activities to create senior jobs. Caregivers have completed relevant training on care, safety, and LH dwellings information.
The service will operate in areas with a high percentage of elderly residents living alone in rental dwellings, including the metropolitan area, North Jeolla, and Busan. LH plans to gradually expand the service area considering operational results and regional demand in the future.
Jo Kyung-sook, head of the LH Housing Welfare Headquarters, noted, 'We will enhance the functions of the life care service to develop it into an integrated housing service model that helps elderly individuals lead independent lives and participate in society.' She added, 'As the social demand for elderly care is increasing due to ultra-aging, we will strive to expand the provision of customized housing services.'
