The construction industry's perceived construction business survey index (CBSI) for June is deteriorating. The Korea Construction Industry Institute announced on the 4th that the CBSI for June was 73.5, down 0.8 points from the previous month (74.3).
The CBSI is a sentiment index surveyed among construction companies, meaning that a score below 100 indicates more pessimistic responses.
Lee Ji-hye, a researcher at the Korea Construction Industry Institute, noted, "The sentiment in the construction industry for June has declined for two consecutive months and remains far below the benchmark of 100, continuing a sluggish trend."
By institutional sector, the funding index fell to 74.3, a decrease of 4.3 points from the previous month, marking the largest drop. The dwellings sector's new order index also fell to 65.7, down 8.9 points. In contrast, the civil engineering (72.4) and non-residential construction (67.8) new order indices increased by 5.1 points and 1.7 points, respectively, compared to the previous month.
By corporation size, the large corporation index decreased to 92.3, down 7.7 points. The small and medium-sized enterprise index rose to 65.5, an increase of 5.1 points. By region, Seoul recorded a decrease of 0.3 points to 89.8, while local areas saw an increase of 1.5 points to 65.3.
Looking at the July economic outlook, the composite outlook index is 70.4, which is 3.1 points lower than the performance index for June.
