Hyundai E&C announced on the 18th that it has published a heritage book titled 'Apgujeong Hyundai: From Hyundai to the Era' to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment.
The Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment, which Hyundai E&C began construction on in 1975, has set the standard for apartments in Korea over the past 50 years, gaining recognition as a top-notch residential complex with its high-rise design, medium-to-large focused layout, and systematic complex planning. This heritage book is characterized by a multidimensional reexamination of the time and historical significance that Apgujeong Hyundai has embraced, viewed through the perspectives of residents, the construction company, and experts.
The introductory photo section features works by artist Choi Yong-jun, expressing modernity with themes of urban and architectural harmony, capturing the value of Apgujeong Hyundai, which has firmly maintained its place against the backdrop of the city and the Han River for a long time. The following interviews cover various generations, including families who have lived there for three generations, residents who have lived there for over 40 years, and residents referred to as 'Apgujeong Hyundai kids', sharing vivid stories of the community.
Essays from domestic scholars representing various fields, such as Architect Yoo Hyun-jun, Hongik University professor; Mo Jong-rin, Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies professor; and Kim Young-min, Seoul City University Department of Landscape Architecture professor, are also included. Experts view the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment not merely as a residence but as a 'standard of urban culture' leading the times and trends, linking it to the historical symbol that has changed along with the history of Korea.
In particular, Professor Yoo Hyun-jun, who has a special connection to the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment after living there for a long time, conveys his thoughts on the space and memories through an article titled 'The reason why Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment is special,' stating that 'the fact that it has a completed urban form while evolving and growing over time is what makes Apgujeong Hyundai special.'
The design also symbolically expresses Apgujeong Hyundai. The cover visualizes the texture of concrete, depicting structural stability and the weight of memory. Inside, photographs of the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment are created in postcard format, designed for sharing each other's stories and memories.
A representative from Hyundai E&C said, 'This heritage book, 'Apgujeong Hyundai: From Hyundai to the Era,' is a complex cultural archive that captures the history of Apgujeong Hyundai and the evolutionary process of urban and residential spaces,' adding, 'The value of a space proven through life and the stories of the community that helped create it are well documented.'
He continued, 'With the publication of this heritage book as a turning point, we will gather Hyundai E&C's capabilities with pride in building residential heritage, rather than simply treating apartments as spaces, to continuously create residential masterpieces that will be a pride for future generations.'
Hyundai E&C is implementing various brand heritage projects to inherit and develop the philosophy and identity of its multi-family housing business, which has continued for over 60 years. In April, it held an apartment design competition to create a space for communication and empathy, highlighting the meaning of 'the places we have lived.' Outstanding entries were also included in the Apgujeong Hyundai heritage book.
Hyundai E&C plans to expand touchpoints with customers through continuous brand communication activities and actively reflect changes in housing trends and needs based on customer experiences into future products, designs, and service improvements.
