Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) has officially started the design service for the 'Advanced Medical Equipment and Bio Health Center' and 'Hongneung Startup Lab,' which are key projects in the 'Hongneung Urban Regeneration Activation Plan.'
SH Corporation announced on the 17th that the 'Advanced Medical Equipment and Bio Health Center,' being constructed in Cheongnyangni-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, passed the Seoul City public building landscape review on the 28th of last month.
This facility will span from the basement to the 7th floor, with a total floor area of 12,652 square meters, and a total project cost of 87.7 billion won. The architectural design is handled by BUMHAN Architecture Office. The corporation explained that it will consist of laboratories related to advanced medical equipment and bio health, offices, and shared laboratories, serving as a core research and development hub in the northeastern region.
Additionally, the 'Hongneung Startup Lab,' which will be established in the Wickye-dong area, began design services on the 2nd. This facility will have a size of 1 basement floor and 3 stories above ground, with a total project cost of 10.1 billion won, creating a support space for startups that includes shared offices, independent startup rooms, and shared meeting rooms. Atelier O Architecture will carry out the design.
The two facilities, being promoted on behalf of Seoul City, are expected to form a virtuous cycle structure where research, startups, and living infrastructure are organically linked, with an anticipated economic impact of creating 1,300 new jobs and generating 280 billion won in production upon completion.
SH Corporation aims to issue construction orders for both facilities within 2026 and plans to complete various administrative procedures by the end of this year.
Specifically, the Advanced Medical Equipment and Bio Health Center is expected to issue a construction order in December 2026, following building permits in July, construction technology reviews in August, and a value engineering review in September. Also, the Hongneung Startup Lab plans to issue a construction order after receiving a building permit in August with a goal of commencing construction in the second half of 2026 and completing it by 2027.
President Hwang Sang-ha of SH Corporation said, 'We will create Hongneung as the center of bio and medical innovation in Seoul, presenting a successful development model combining research and startups,' and added, 'We will do our best to ensure that both facilities grow into a global innovation belt in the northeastern region.'
