The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 17th that it will establish and operate a 'Construction Accident Investigation Committee' to identify the cause of the collapse during the construction of the Shin Ansan Line on the 11th and to implement measures to prevent recurrence.
The committee is composed of experts from the 6th Construction Accident Investigation Group to ensure professionalism and objectivity. To conduct a fair and transparent investigation, it will consist of commissioners who are unrelated to the Shin Ansan Line construction project and plans to conduct an independent accident investigation.
The committee will be composed of experts (up to 12) in civil engineering construction, structure, soil and foundation, and quality related to structural collapses and ground subsidence incidents.
The committee will start its investigation with a kick-off meeting near the accident site in the afternoon of the same day and will conduct investigations for about two months until June 16. The period may be extended depending on the progress of the investigation.
The committee will analyze the cause of the accident through the review of related documents, such as design specifications, and hearings with stakeholders, and will prepare measures to prevent recurrence.
