On the 23rd, POSCO E&C announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Carbon Neutral Road Construction Technology Research Institute for the development of upcycling building materials technology.
Through this MOU, POSCO E&C will share the status of construction waste generated on site and research results for developing upcycling building materials technology. Additionally, it plans to jointly research technologies for paving road structures and drainage layers, aiming to further develop building materials technology in the road structure sector.
The Carbon Neutral Road Construction Technology Research Institute will jointly conduct research on developing upcycling building materials technology for roads and specialized new technologies for paving and construction.
The two organizations plan to evaluate performance and provide training related to carbon-neutral Scope 3, as well as serve as a bridge for legislative proposals. Scope 3 refers to indirect emissions that occur from sources not owned or controlled by the corporation.
Since January of last year, POSCO E&C has been researching technology to recycle waste, such as discarded concrete generated at construction sites, into high-quality, low-cost building materials like asphalt, bricks, and cement. The completed technologies are being applied to road paving and construction sites, and last month, a trademark application was completed under the name 'IM Upcycling+ building materials.'
Choi Jong-moon, head of the research and development center at POSCO E&C, said, "The company plans to further develop resource circulation waste building materials upcycling technology as an 'innovative company that constantly challenges the limits of its industry for eco-friendly future construction' and pursue the establishment and commercialization of its unique brand products.
