The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 12th that it will initiate a public competition for architectural design of 72 blocks, valued at 200 billion won, this year.
This year, the total number of competitions is 63, targeting 72 blocks nationwide, including ▲Gwangmyeong Siheung S2-1BL (1,742 dwellings, 6 billion won) and ▲Goyang Changneung S-9BL (1,519 dwellings, 5.2 billion won). This is a level of 63,000 dwellings, an increase of 8,000 from last year.
LH plans to complete all public competitions for architectural design in the first half of the year to actively execute investment and revitalize the construction market. Following the promotion of three projects (2,000 dwellings, 6.9 billion won) last month, including Namyangju Wangsuk A-6BL (973 dwellings, 2 billion won), it will promote 14 projects (13,000 dwellings, 39.8 billion won) this month, including Goyang Changneung A-6BL (643 dwellings, 2.9 billion won), and a total of 46 projects (47,000 dwellings, 152.4 billion won) in April, including Gyeongsan Daem A-4BL (641 dwellings, 2.2 billion won).
To ensure rapid and efficient project promotion, LH will diversify the public competition methods. In addition to general public competitions, it will also promote proposal competitions that can incorporate creative ideas from the design participants. In cases where adjacent blocks in the same land and similar business types exist among the project areas, an integrated competition method will also be utilized.
LH will promote tailored specialized housing design competitions to address major social issues, such as the shrinking population and aging. Depending on regional characteristics and the demand for residents, it will promote ▲welfare housing for the elderly (5 blocks including Hadong Gwangpyeong, 554 dwellings) ▲job-linked support housing (1 block in Incheon Urban High-Tech, 100 dwellings) and ▲youth hope housing (254 dwellings at Geumcheon District Office Station in Seoul).
Additionally, LH will launch special design competitions in collaboration with external experts to develop various housing models that respond to demographic changes and the climate crisis. Based on seven themes, including ▲presenting future housing visions ▲creating socially integrated housing complexes and ▲planning regional community hubs, a total of 16 blocks (12,000 dwellings, 32.6 billion won) will be promoted in the special design competition. The theme of 'presenting future housing visions' will be executed in a designated competition method, in which LH selects renowned architects from both domestic and international platforms, aiming to announce the winning designs within this year.
LH will hold a '2025 Public Housing Business Briefing' on the 14th at 2 p.m. in the conference room on the 3rd floor of the LH Southern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters. During the briefing, LH will provide detailed insights into this year's public housing business directions and design competition plans while also collecting various opinions from the relevant industry.
The briefing will also introduce improvements to the design verification system. LH plans to strengthen design verification by establishing committees for various specialized fields, including structures and equipment, and utilizing third-party verification methods involving design experts this year.
Oh Ju-heon, the head of LH's Public Housing Headquarters, said, "In line with the government's ongoing expansion of housing supply to stabilize the housing market and the revitalization of the construction industry, we will accelerate the pace of design competitions this year," and added, "We will continue to reflect creative and high-quality designs in dwellings to enhance the quality of public housing."
