According to Songpa District, the Songpa Seongji Apartment is the first complex in the country to complete a 'vertical expansion' remodeling project.

Completed in 1992, the Songpa Seongji Apartment is a complex of 298 dwellings with two buildings. It was the first in the country to receive approval for a vertical expansion remodeling project in 2020 and broke ground in January 2022.

POSCO Engineering & Construction took charge of the construction, expanding the area by horizontally extending the existing complex. In addition, the vertical expansion increased the number of floors, reducing the economic burden on residents while increasing the number of dwellings. The general sale of 29 additional dwellings was completed last year.

One of the drawbacks of older apartments is the parking issue, which was alleviated by expanding the underground parking lot, increasing the number of parking spaces from 201 to 398.

Through remodeling, the Songpa Seongji Apartment transformed from 298 dwellings across 1 basement level to 15 above ground levels into 327 dwellings from 3 basement levels to 18 above ground levels.

Seogang-seok, head of Songpa District Office, noted, "The remodeling of Songpa Seongji Apartment will greatly influence the improvement of living conditions for aging apartments across the country," adding, "As many complexes are in the process of the project, I will actively communicate with residents and concentrate all efforts."
