Vice Minister Jin Hyun-hwan of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport emphasized on the 28th, 'Due to ground weakening during the thawing period, safety accidents are a concern, so please do your utmost for thorough inspections to prevent any casualties or property damage from slope collapses.'
On that day, Vice Minister Jin visited the safety inspection site for steep slopes in apartment complexes in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, where he stated, 'Any urgent issues identified should be addressed immediately, and necessary repairs must be completed before the rainy season to thoroughly prevent safety accidents.'
The inspected apartment complex consists of 512 dwellings across four buildings, from three underground floors to twenty above ground. It was completed by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) in 2006.
The safety inspections for vulnerable facilities in preparation for this thawing period are being conducted on 15,326 locations under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport via self-inspection teams organized by each managing authority. The inspection teams focus on the collapse, tipping, and falling rocks of vulnerable facilities during the thawing period. The inspection period runs from the 17th of this month to April 2.
