A 49-story tourist hotel, officetel, residential buildings, and cultural facilities will be built on the former site of the Prima Hotel in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam.
On the 26th, the Seoul city council held the third urban and architectural joint committee meeting and approved the urban management plan (district unit plan for the Cheongdam-dong 52-3 area revitalization project) with modifications.
The site, which used to be the Prima Hotel, is located in a linear commercial area along Dosan-daero. There are various metropolitan transport projects planned around this area, including the Samsung Station complex transfer center, Wirye-Sinsa Line, and the undergroundization of the Eastern Expressway, making it a site with significant development potential.
Through the designation of this district unit plan area, a 49-story tourist hotel, officetel, residential buildings, and cultural facilities are scheduled to be constructed in this area. Notably, this plan also represents a case where a tourist hotel was introduced with a floor area ratio incentive applied, exceeding 50%. Given the characteristics of the Daesang site, which is located within the Korean Wave tourism cultural industry belt, it is expected to play a central role as a hub for Korean Wave tourism through upgraded accommodation facilities in the future.
However, the decision on this district unit plan mainly determined the planned direction and guidelines, and there are many future tasks remaining, such as establishing detailed plans through review by the architectural committee and revitalization of the area through public contributions.
A Seoul city official noted, "There are many remaining tasks, but we expect this plan decision to greatly contribute to the revitalization of the area along Dosan-daero, and we will strengthen global urban competitiveness through the establishment of tourism infrastructure based on a comprehensive and consistent direction for future development in this area."
