Hyundai Engineering stated, "We mourn the deceased and sincerely convey our condolences," and published the official statement from CEO Woo.

CEO Woo noted, "On the 25th, an accident occurred at the construction site of the 'Sejong-Anseong Expressway,' during which precious lives were lost and injuries were sustained, which should never have happened," and continued, "I bow my head in apology to the bereaved families. I also apologize to those who were injured and their families, and I wish for a swift recovery."

He added, "We are mobilizing all the capabilities of the company for victim support and accident recovery, and we are actively cooperating with related agencies for prompt on-site recovery and accurate investigation of the cause of the accident," stating, "We will faithfully engage in all investigations and do our best for necessary measures, and we will establish and thoroughly implement measures to prevent such accidents from reoccurring in the future."

Around 9:49 a.m. on the 25th, an accident occurred at section 9 of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway near Ijeong-myeon in Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam, where a slab structure on top of a pier collapsed during bridge work. As a result of the accident, 10 people were buried after falling. According to the fire authorities, four people died, five were seriously injured, and one sustained minor injuries.

The project is section 9 of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway, which was commissioned by the Korea Expressway Corporation. The lead contractor is Hyundai Engineering, while the on-site contractors are the consortium of Hyundai Engineering, BUMYANG CONSTRUCTION, and Hoban Construction.

Hyundai Engineering dispatched employees to the scene following the news of the accident. It is reported that plans to support the work affected by the human casualties are also under consideration.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also established an accident response headquarters led by Minister Park Sang-woo in relation to this incident.
