Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) noted on the 12th that it has implemented residential support for 148 households (238 people) of Sakhalin Koreans selected as beneficiaries of settlement support for returnees last year.
LH continues to provide rental housing support for Sakhalin Koreans and accompanying family members who migrated to Russian Sakhalin due to forced mobilization during the Japanese colonial period but could not return home after liberation. Since the start of occupancy in 2000 at the Sakhalin Korean exclusive APT. "Ansang Homeland Village," a total of 2,290 households have received rental housing support.
LH completed rental housing contracts for 113 of the 148 Sakhalin Korean households across its regional offices in Incheon, Busan, Yangsan, and other locations nationwide on the 6th and 7th. For the 35 households whose contracts were delayed due to individual entry, LH plans to conduct contract signing within a certain period through adjustments in move-in timing and interpretation support.
The oldest contract signer, 100-year-old Sakhalin Korean elder Lee Song-gwi, said, "I am very grateful for being able to step on my homeland's soil before I die, and for being given such a good home." He added, "I will settle down well in my homeland in the future."
Acting Head of LH Welfare Headquarters Yoo Byeong-yong said, "LH is providing a warm home so that Sakhalin Koreans returning to their homeland can settle in without difficulties," and added, "We will continue to actively cooperate with relevant agencies such as the Overseas Koreans Agency and the Korean Red Cross to support the settlement of Sakhalin Koreans and to promote housing environment improvement projects to enhance housing quality."
