President Lee Jae-myung on the 14th held a summit with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at Cheong Wa Dae and said, "As uncertainty in the international situation grows, it has become more important for Korea and Uzbekistan to share friendship and trust and for the two countries to play their roles."
The two countries have built a close cooperation system since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992. President Lee also expressed gratitude to the people of Uzbekistan for their warm consideration in the past difficult times toward about 200,000 ethnic Korean compatriots in Uzbekistan.
At this meeting, the two leaders pledged cooperation in future growth engines such as transportation, health care, climate crisis response and critical mineral supply, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital.
President Mirziyoyev explained that more than about 700 Korea corporations have entered Uzbekistan in joint-venture form, and that investment has also been steadily expanding. He added that Korea's technology and experience are being widely shared in key industrial sectors such as e-government, education, IT, agriculture, and health care.
He emphasized that the friendly relations between the two countries have continued despite changes in the political environment, and that Uzbekistan will continue to support the Korean Peninsula's peace and security policy.
