The black pig breed "Nanchukmatdon," which had been produced mainly in Jeju, has established a production base in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang.
On the 14th, the Rural Development Administration said Nanchukmatdon had been produced and shipped for the first time on the mainland, not in Jeju. Nanchukmatdon is a black pig breed developed by the National Institute of Animal Science under the Rural Development Administration, meaning a delicious pig made by the Nanji Livestock Research Center. It features higher marbling content than regular pork, making the meat tender.
The National Institute of Animal Science has supplied Nanchukmatdon breeding stock to black pig farms in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang, at their request since 2025. In May that year, 42 animals were first distributed to two farms. A total of 197 have been supplied through July this year. The Nanchukmatdon shipped this time are pigs born and raised in Sancheong in February to March this year. After supplying the breeding stock, the process continued through reproduction, rearing and shipment.
Nanchukmatdon produced in Sancheong will be fully distributed by a specialized distributor affiliated with the Nanchukmatdon Research Association. This is to prevent mixing with other pork and misuse of the brand.
National Institute of Animal Science Director Cho Yong-min said, "This first shipment expands the production base of Nanchukmatdon, developed by the Rural Development Administration, to the mainland," adding, "We will manage the process systematically from production to distribution to enhance the value of the breed and the brand."
