Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Yoon Geon-young mentioned the possibility of a news conference by President Lee Jae-myung, saying, "There is nothing but the president's sincerity that can win back the hearts of supporters who have left." Diagnosing the recent drop in the president's approval rating as a "collapse of trust," he said the presidential office should present and organize clear positions on matters such as the withdrawal of indictments and a constitutional amendment for consecutive terms.
On the morning of the 14th, Yoon wrote on his Facebook page, "It seems there will soon be a presidential news conference," adding, "Presidential aides are likely racking their brains over how to overcome this difficult impasse and how to convey the president's sincerity."
He then urged actively embracing the voices of supporters. He said, "Momentum must not be broken, but that does not mean trying to beat the public," and added, "Above all, fully accepting the public's voice is the first priority."
He especially stressed the need to explain issues such as the withdrawal of indictments and a constitutional amendment for consecutive terms. Yoon said, "That is particularly true for parts of governance that are undermining trust, such as the withdrawal of indictments and a constitutional amendment for consecutive terms," adding, "The essence of the recent deterioration in public sentiment is the collapse of the trust base; therefore, matters that go to the essence must be tidied up so cleanly that people say it was 'too much' in order to win back even a little of the hearts that have left."
Yoon also called for direct communication by the president. He said, "We must abandon any thought of decorating or tampering with the president's sincerity," adding, "There is nothing but the president's sincerity that can win back the hearts of supporters who have left."
He continued, "It seems better to show things as they are, even if rough and unpolished," adding, "Rather than scolding a Minister at a Cabinet meeting or taking reporters' questions and answering them, there appears to be no alternative but to look the public squarely in the eye and convey sincerity in the president's own language."
He added, "We must not see a second Yoon Suk-yeol, must we?" and, "It is still early in the five-year term with a long way to go, and even starting again now is sufficient."
