Kim Min-seok of the Democratic Party of Korea said in opening remarks at the high-level party-government consultative meeting on the afternoon of the 13th that, regarding the resignation issue of Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee Yong Hye-in, the party will "step up solidarity with progressive forces such as the Basic Income Party and accelerate discussions on political reform, and faithfully carry out the confirmation hearing."
Kim said, "At a turning point in state affairs, adjustments in approval ratings and a Cabinet reshuffle are underway." He added, "We will consistently implement a party-government line focused on people's livelihoods, practicality, and expansion, and we will devote ourselves humbly and diligently so that a rebound in public trust can be achieved."
He went on, "We will promote in-party debates on full-scale reforms to root out abnormalities in politics, the economy, and society that hinder the normalization of Korea, and we will soon finalize and report to the public after discussions between the party and the government."
Regarding independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon continuing to expose allegations of a "request for approval of a new drug clinical trial" involving Minister of Justice nominee Kim Seung-won, he said, "We will thoroughly investigate the illegal leak case that is escalating into the 'Han Dong-hoon gate' and put a period to the era of 'political prosecutors.'"
Regarding the Public Prosecution Service set to launch in October, he said, "We will make sure there is not a single step of substantive backsliding in prosecution reform and not a single gap in public safety, and we will thoroughly manage the launch of the Public Prosecution Service and police reform, devising every necessary alternative."
