Lee Jae-myung, the president, said on the 13th that he congratulates director Lee Chang-dong's film "Possible Love" on winning the jury grand prize at the Venice International Film Festival.
On X that day, Lee said, "When I met the director and actors at the Lumière Summit on the 13th, I heard firsthand about the intense local interest in the work," adding, "I am even happier that the expectations at the time led to a good outcome."
He continued, "I hope this award will broaden the diversity of Korean cinema and allow more good works to meet audiences around the world." He added, "I will continue to support the shining journey of Korean cinema."
Meanwhile, "Possible Love" is Lee's first new film in eight years since "Burning (2018)" and his first Netflix film. It tells the story that unfolds as a documentary director (Cho Yeo-jeong) with a wealthy husband (Cho In-sung) captures on camera the lives of a laid-off worker couple (Sul Kyung-gu, Jeon Do-yeon). This is the first time a Korean film has won the jury grand prize at the Venice International Film Festival.
