President Lee Jae-myung on the 11th, regarding the case of personal information leakage at the online video service (OTT) Tving, said, "We must enhance the effectiveness of sanctions by making the burden that follows incomparably greater than the benefits gained from neglecting personal information protection."
At 2 p.m. that day at Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee presided over a senior secretaries' meeting and stated accordingly, "Recently, at an online video service corporations, an incident occurred in which more than 40 million pieces of personal information were leaked, heightening the public's anxiety and concern."
President Lee said, "That corporations reportedly identified a security vulnerability in advance but did not take the necessary measures," and instructed, "Relevant agencies must promptly and accurately identify the circumstances of the incident and hold those responsible strictly to account in accordance with the law and principles."
He added, "We must also make every effort to prevent secondary crimes that exploit the leaked personal information."
President Lee emphasized, "In the era of a sweeping digital transition, the thorough protection of personal information is a basic foundation that supports maintaining the community's trust and stable social operations," and "We must expedite institutional improvements that further strengthen responsibility for personal information across the public and private sectors and regardless of whether they are domestic or international corporations."
He continued, "To correct the misguided perception that security is a unnecessary expense, I hope for the swift establishment of a comprehensive response based on a pan-governmental cooperation," and urged, "I also ask corporations to recognize their heavy sense of responsibility and move to reinforce security personnel and overhaul systems."
In addition, regarding the floods in Nepal, he ordered swift search and rescue along with measures for the families of the missing.
President Lee said, "At dawn today, the second contingent of the emergency relief team was dispatched to the site," and added, "I ask relevant agencies to work closely with the Nepalese government, corporations, and local partners to ensure that there is no gap in search and rescue for the missing during the handover of duties."
He added, "Above all, what is most important is swift and meticulous search and rescue activities, along with caring with sincere devotion for the families of the missing who have suffered severe physical and emotional harm," and said, "Please do your utmost in search and rescue operations and in communicating with the families so they do not feel that they were abandoned by the state or treated unfairly."
