The government will inject an additional 90 billion won to stabilize prices for Chuseok. Following a 103 billion won package of price stabilization measures, it plans to allocate more funds to ease the burden on people's livelihoods.
The government on the 9th announced a "supplementary plan for Chuseok livelihood stabilization measures" with these details.
Based on this, the government decided to remove the discount limit—previously 10,000 won per person in normal times and 20,000 won for Chuseok—and to extend the discount period by one week from the 3rd to the 30th of this month.
In addition, it will expand the government's reserved supply of seafood and widen the range of price reductions. The government will add 2,000 tons to its reserved stocks of pollock, squid, yellow croaker, and dried anchovies, supplying 22,000 tons—triple the normal level. It also plans to supply government-reserved seafood at prices up to 40% lower than market prices.
Along with this, the government will also work to eradicate price gouging through a "joint on-site inspection for price stability, including Chuseok price gouging" before the holiday.
